Okay I've been mulling this over for awhile. Here are somethings that I believe would make our beloved CoH a lot more interesting.

1. SS types should be allowed to pick up objects and smash bad guys with them. Objects such as cars, manhole covers, asphalt, fire hydrants and parking meters.

2. Villains/heroes should leave indentations in the brickwork or walls when sent slamming into them.

3. Plateglass windows should be breakable. We should be able to send people through them. Kind of like the doors when people get put in prison cells. Only not so tough.

4. Significant events that happen every 3 to 5 hours. What I mean is something like a full out hostage situation or a suicidal jumper over in Steel Canyon. Imagine the scenario. Your hero is standing there and a pack of cop cars goes roaring past. They set up a parameter and you the hero need to go negotiate. There should be badges for negotiation and the saving of the hostage or jumper.

5. Hold ups. We need gas station, convenience store, and bank robberies. Badges for stopping X amount of petty crimes.

Opinions? What other ideas can you come up with?

Well I know your third point might be a reality someday, since Cryptic is helping to test the PhysX chip that AGEIA is making.

PhysX is the world's first Physics Processing Unit (PPU), an entirely new category of processor that promises to revolutionize gaming in the same way that the graphics processing unit (GPU) did in the 1990s. By offloading software physics processing from the CPU and GPU, the PPU completes the triangle of gameplay, graphics and physics, balancing the load of these processing tasks and enabling pervasive interactive reality in tomorrow's games

Ok....

1. Great idea...VERY hard to get done, especially in an MMO, has to do with physics and all that. Probably would involve, New game engine and that stuff.
2. Same as above
3. Same as above
4. I really like this idea. Maybe have a list of a LOT of events, and randomly cycle through. Maybe there could be sort of a a NEWS or a Command center, to get informed on the events and set up a team.
5. Great idea, Maybe this could be done in the PvP with COV/COH. Such as villains take control and the CoH guys try to hold em off. Maybe a way for villains to get some Cash.

Just my thoughts ...

Well I don't think point 1 would be very hard to do. Take a look at the Outcast Bricks. They pick up rocks and throw them. How hard would it be add that bit to actual characters?

And if the same code is applied to windows as it is to doors it may work for point number 2.

Keep the thoughts coming people. :)

1. SS types should be allowed to pick up objects and smash bad guys with them. Objects such as cars, manhole covers, asphalt, fire hydrants and parking meters.

I think this is doable, but it causes some problems. The most often cited problem is that it would cause the COH landscape to be all sorts of torn up. But there's nothing to stop them from coding in a bunch of throwable objects in instanced missions. The real problem is that it would be a specially coded game function for exactly one power. Plus, it would give the tanks significant ranged ability with the right amount of objects. I personally think that there should be different ways to use powers than frying a bad guy. We're getting into this with the SSOCS, but that's a little ways away, and it's not quite what I'm talking about. I'd like to see ice slides, psychic interrogations and mystical portal closings. Maybe if it was just one or two things that each power could do that wasn't directly related to hurting somebody else. Just that little bit would make a huge difference.

No reason why this couldn't happen every half hour, and not just per zone, but per sub zone. I think that's where we're headed with the fire stuff in I4 right now.

5. Hold ups. We need gas station, convenience store, and bank robberies. Badges for stopping X amount of petty crimes.

Yep. Sure do. I would imagine that this is coming in a future issue, much like above.

Good ideas, hard to pull off, but they would be good.

Stuff I'd like to see
1. It'd be cool if confuse would let you take over the body of the villian and not just make him fight for you.
2. Destroyable objects inside of instances.

I can think of some more... just can't remember them at the moment.

Your second point is excellent Kurai.

I think this would solve the problem of destroying the main game area.
Also you could pick up civillians and save them, like say from a Fire or a potential bombing. Basically have a area that you have to put the civillians in to finish the Mission.

I also thought this might be a way to do a non combat part of the game. Your hero is given the task to help repair part of Boomtown. This could also involve combat as groups of baddies come and try to stop your repair efforts.

Now it was a long time ago, but I could have sworn that back in beta testing, some of the boxes in the warehouse missions would shatter if hit with a body. My memory sometimes plays tricks on me, but I could swear that early in beta, Counter Culture got smashed through a wooden box by knockback. I always imagined that it was removed because it caused to many stability problems. Anyone else remember that, or am I dreaming?

In I4 they have supposedly added building fires, where you'd get a temp power from a fireman, then go in and put out fires.

I want to have all the emotes available to the citizens, criminals, and so forth... I also think air drums, air guitar, and microphone, for all of us with musical characters. don't forget the flashlight as well. it would add a lot to the caves and such to be able to whip out a flashlight and say something... like... "Well, the tracks lead this way" or "hmm, with this pattern, this cave is NOT a natural occurance... see those shovel marks?"

A little buzzer is going off in my head telling me that as they add more content for random things to occur in each zone, the toll on bandwidth will also start to increase. Which means that it is very possible that 56k modem types will be unable to play :(.

Badfish
05-09-2005, 10:27 PM
Hi everyone, I'm Badfish. I've haven't posted before, but i do enjoy reading the posts here. Anyways heres a few ideas i had.

1. To keep game play from being too repeatative, I'd like to see there be an option for teammates to accept a one anothers missions as there own. What I mean is, for example, On a team of say 4 hereos and all of them have the Frostfire mission qued up. After one player has his Frostfire mission completed, then there would be a pop-up asking the other 3 something like "Would u like to accept this mission as your own." with yes and no buttons to click. THis way for teams that just want to move on in the game they can and for teams out for XP they can do the mission 4 times if they want. I dont know about u but it gets kinda boring doing the same missions over and over.

2. Think underwater. I think it would be a cool idea to have underwater missions and maybe even an underwater zone to play in. The zone could be under a bubble or it could be completely underwater also. In the Missions we could battle new sea creatures/villions. Our heroes could wear underwater breathing aparatus for those who cant breathe underwater already. it would be cool i think.

3. I dont know if it possible, but id like to see vehicles made available to our heroes. They could start out as regular vehicles and as we gain levels we could upgrade them to super vehicles, like a Batmobile type vehicles for example. Maybe there could be missions based on vehicle play as well. Hmm..maybe at level 50 we could get our vehicle. This could add a few levels of gameplay to CoH.

Badfish out.

Hey Badfish! Welcome to the... actually, no, you've been here. :P

I totally agree with your first point: they could implement it like that "share quest" option in WoW. I think that'd slim down the game a lot, in terms of repetition and it'd just make sense.

Underwated and vehicles... while they would be nice, they'd be very hard... though I heard that "Jump to Lightspeed" saved Star Wars Galaxies as a game... so it might be worth looking into.

Or you know what else would be cool? If we could make our own mission objectives, customize the map, pick the villian group and if we wanted AV's or GM's we would have to ask permission so you wouldn't have problems with those @$$hole farmers. Then you could string missions together with a story line, and submit them to try and make them official.

Hehe, actually, all they'd have to do is implement the Havok Physics Engine (http://www.havok.com/) to do everything the original poster mentioned. It's being used by NCSoft in the upcoming MMOG title, Auto Assault (www.autoassault.com) (as well as having been used in great titles such as Half-Life 2 (http://www.half-life2.com/) and Halo 2 (http://www.xbox.com/en-us/halo2/default.htm)), which looks to have very fast-paced, destructive, and just generally fun combat. If it were to be placed in the CoH atmosphere, you could expect not only people flying through windows, but mighty heroes to pick up and throw cars, or just sling them around, hitting people with them.

... Yes, I AM a Havok fanboi. :chuckle:

I'd like to see a bit more variety on the non-arcane/mutation/science side of things... like more options for guns than just the assault rifle. Maybe dual pistols/uzis plus costume customisation to fit... thigh holsters and bandoliers. Some more gadgets would be good... How about a 'motion tracker' power, while we're at it?

I'd also like to see a *little* (emphasis on little) less combat in the game. It would be nice to have a cool puzzle or two to solve, just to break up the 'beat up bad guys, find clues/disarm bombs/rescue hostages' template. Thing is, I find combat in CoH to be such a blast to do, and watch, i wouldn't want to see it toned back loads, maybe just one in ten missions or something give you something a bit different.

Also, what about some stealth/recon missions? Perhaps an espionage power set for controllers, who have to use their funky mojo to infiltrate and steal? Could that work? Think that would be lots of fun.

I dont think the physics thing isnt that farfetched. I mean they could create a whole system. Maybe like reputation. After you smash a enemy into a store window the owner must fix the window, which will bring your reputation down. Say if it goes way low, then noone will give you missions. Heroes in comics have to make sure psserby's are ok while fight the villains. Maybe something like picking up a civilian and placing them somewhere safe.
