Yeah, it's great. The dialogue between Spidy and... well, everyone is fantastic. :D

So far, the only thing I'm dissipointed in is that I wanted the question of "who was freed" to be drawn out a little longer (like for the first 12 issues), but I can live with it.

Awsome, so im not alone in loving this one? Woohoo! Possible spoilage. Highlite at yer own risk!

The whole Daredevil being outted, and the purple man scenario was really cool, and that really big guy who was locked up for killing his wife, I've never even heard of him!

Plus, I loved the beginning bit, the whole "Costume or no costume?" "Up to you" "Costume.", And i really liked how the art connected the story very fluid.ly. :shinner: [/endspoilage]

Like the book except for one thing--Wolverine. Why?! Every single marvel book has to have him in it. So sick of seeing him and his feral mutant routine. That is all.

"I have permission to start a team anytime I see fit."- Cap

"Oh yeah? I have clones."-Spidey's reaction.

Bendis is knocking this title out of the park. I hope he stays on as long as he has for Ultimate Spider-man.

In the team pictures has anyone noticed that Luke Cage seems to be missing and the purple guy is in his place?

EDIT - wait, n/m. I have 3 New Avengers Posters at home that I got from a Wizard Magazine, and two of them have just everyone else and just the purple guy, but then in one poster Luke Cage AND the Purple Guy are in the same picture.

Solario
06-10-2005, 05:31 PM
When you say Purple Guy, do you mean the Purple Man, as in Killgrave as in the guy who "hypnotized" and pretty much enslaved Jessica "Jewel" Jones through a couple of months?

And yeah Luke Cage is still in. Seems like the most popular characters and a couple of Bendis' favorite 70's characters are in it.

Meanwhile... Doesn't the baby look a little pale, considering Luke Cage is the supposed father?

They don't know if the father is Cage or the late great Scott Lang yet.

Though it's probably Cage.

I think that it can be safley said that these are ALL Bendis' favorite characters. The fact that some are also highly popular (or "movie heroes") is not why they were included in the team, at least from what I gather.

And even if it is why, I could care less. It's still an awsome mag.

And so, Wolverine get's the official team invite in #6. Gotta admit that while I didn't like the idea of him being on the team, I liked the way they did it. It's an interesting bunch, I'd like to see how it develops. I hope Bendis sticks with it for more than a year, because I just know that some new writter will come along and ditch most of these characters and bring back the old classics.

Looks like he's going to be more there "random black ops guy", like the old Black Widow was supposed to be. The one with the red hair and the bigger....
But what that may mean as that he'll be around the mansion for all the chatty, inter-team dialouge, and then dissapear on "missions", and, every once and awhile, he'll show up to bail the team out of some trap as Cap's "Ace in the Hole."
No real basis for this opinion, it just seems logical.

And I can live with this, as long as the comic doesn't turn into a constant argument between him and Cap, and he doesn't save the team every issue. I'd like to see a real working respect between Wolvie and the rest of the team build it. The Avenger's have always had "leave no man behind" kind of attitude, and I'd like to see this extend to Wolvie as well.

***SPOILER***
Iron-Man first presents a woman to the Sentry who's obviously the dead-thought wife, then brings in a comic book writer who created a comic character called the Sentry some years back, afterwards asking Sentry/Mr.Reynolds who he really is.
*********

The whole comic was nice as always, but the ending was extremely lame. I sure hope they have a good explanation for this, else they've killed a series that started off amazingly.

Magna Harrier
07-17-2005, 06:04 PM
Oh, I think it's a bit much to say they KILLED ther series. Remember... at the end of the Sentry series from a few years back, the world's memory of him was wiped clean, with the exception of Reed Richards. So I imagine anything that seems kinda hokey that's being thrown in now is reality's way of balancing that out. It's hardly anything to drop the series over, though.

Poison
07-17-2005, 06:12 PM

Magna Harrier

Yeah... the ending of the last issue was kinda "Uh boooy." But, depending on how they do it, it could turn out pretty decent... one of those "reality coping mechanisms" that I always fall for.

I know about the Marvel Comics in the Marvel Universe, Randomus. I read She-Hulk.

I know that they're not going to go: "Hey Sentry, you're a comic book hero come to life. Wanna join the New Avengers?" But just having that option available is enough to make me wary.

Magna Harrier

Yeah, it'll be a tense month for New Avengers fans.
His wife showing up DOES answer something a few folks have been wondering about: In The AAFES (Army and Air Force Exchange Service) exclusive New Avengers one-shot, the Sentry shows up for the team meeting, and is like "Will this take long? I have something planned with my wife.."
This was like 3 months ago...leaving me and the spouse wondering, "Did'nt he say he killed his wife?"

Solario

I know about the Marvel Comics in the Marvel Universe, Randomus. I read She-Hulk.

I don't know if She-Hulk really counts though, she's always, like with Bendis' version of The Purple Man, known that she was in a comic book. I don't remember if Dan Slott ever played her like that, but I remember something about Byrne doing it.

Also the writer has confirmed to have been Paul Jenkins, the creator of Sentry here. But more handsome and with a full head of hair, as Bendis put it.

Randomus
07-20-2005, 10:52 AM
Bendis has also said, "Technically, legally, Paul Jenkins is a new creation of mine. So I get points every time he shows up in a book. I want to make Paul Jenkins the new Wolverine."

I don't think that guy can fail to make me chuckle.

In the origional Sentry series, when the Sentry used his powers, he released his polar opposite, the Void, who was a terrible villian, eventually, I beleive, killing Sentry's wife. Hence the suprise over his wife being alive. The lack tentacles at the end of issue 8 are also probably the Void as well.

Magna Harrier
09-06-2005, 02:10 PM

Im loving this sentry thing. Cant wait to see him in action against a big guns. They need to get done with this avengers forming and get back to saving the world from big bad guys that could flatten it in 10 seconds. Thats what the avengers do. I also really want to see Sentry in action, rumor has it that hes easily as powerful as superman. So, cant wait to see.

Meltman
09-06-2005, 02:34 PM
Well, he does have the power of 1,000 exploding suns....

Of course, DC would just give Superman the power of an anti-1,000-exploding-sun butt beam or something...

I am enjoying NA so far, then again I am taking it lightly unlike some of my friends who look at the series with disgust. *Shrugs* Sentry doesnt look so bad, his series (forget when it came out as I read it in paperback form) was, in my opinion, awsome. Never actually got to see him fight yet, besides ripping carnage in half. I've heard enough of his power already and just want to see him in action.
What I am worried about though, is if he IS the superman of marvel...where does that leave Captain America? I could see a clash if they are both on the team as they both seem to represent that 'superman' like personality.
Maybe I am just looking into it too much though.

AfterglowNoMore
09-27-2005, 08:02 PM
It really comes down to the old Justice League conundrum of, "If Superman's on the team, the what's the point of everyone else being there?" The same question goes for Sentry. He's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooo much more powerful than every other member of the team, so what's the point of hte rest of them?

Yellow Wolf
09-27-2005, 08:10 PM
I was talking more about personality. Cap seems to be the all around good guy who people go to for advice. Is Sentry going to take over that position?

Griimace
09-27-2005, 08:26 PM
Well, Sentry is being portrayed as Gade A Nutso Bonkers, so it's not like they can just let him do his own thing yet. I know he's not going to be portrayed with a Superman-like personality.

Yellow Wolf

Ronin, for all we know, could still be alive. Check this out though..it seems plausible.
Taken from comicboards.com:

I think Ronin is Stone (from The Chaste which was led by Stick).

In issue #2 of the Daredevil: Ninja miniseries, DD is on Stone about "No Killing." Something Cap also stresses to the mysterious figure in NA #11. And in DD: Ninja #3, Stone tells Murdock, "Life is full of conflicts. Fights will come at you from every direction and for whatever reason." Back to NA #11, Cap says, "... no one knows more than I that a fight can come from any direction."

Daredevil: Ninja was also written by Bendis.

Elektra isn't blessed with bazongas as big as other comic heroines, so it's still possible. Besides, the only person who would know as much about The Hand and the Japan underworld as DD would be either Elektra or that other guy Yellow Wolf suggested.

***SPOILERS****
I think it's GREAT that it is Echo. I really loved her story in some of the most beautiful, emotional art comics I've ever seen, Marvel Knights Daredevil issues 51 to 55.

Her dad worked for the Kingpin and died, Fisk then raised her. She has been deaf since birth, but was always very curious about everything. The Kingpin noticed that she could obtain skills by seeing someone do anything, so he sent her to a special school, where she was basically taught everything: fencing, music instruments, martial arts, ballet, etc. Of course Fisk only wanted her as a warrior for later. She fell in love with Matt Murdock, but then the Kingpin made her betray Murdock. She only later realised that Fisk was actually an evil man and that she had destroyed her relationship with DD.
Due to her ability to copy, she calls herself Echo.

Seems odd though because I just received Issue #20 in the mail last week, and the List says that Issue #21 is coming out this week.

Also, at the end of Issue #20, it seems that the Avengers suddently have a re-occuring theme. (Highlight the next section to see spoiler)

Spoiler: At the end of Issue #20 the writers say that in the next issue the avengers will Disassemble once again. Guess now that the Michael crisis is over they are going to get into the Civil War Action.

Also, anyone else notice how much of a pussy Commander Hill is? She doesn't even have the balls to nuke the Avengers to save the world, and yet she is completely fine with attacking Captain America in the Civil War comics. It seemed like Hill was completely unsure of even what to do. Kinda rediculous that she somehow managed to replace Nick Fury.

Its possible that the powers that be want someone who isn't as adamant and determined as Nick Fury is... because if she ever developes a will of her own, rather than following orders she'd be all kinds of circumventing authority just like Nick.

Looks like the next couple of issues of The New Avengers are going to be centering on how Cap. America Forms his team that appeared in Civil War Issue#2.

This issue was released some time ago so I'm not going to hide any spoilers.

I thought it was pretty interesting how Cap and The Falcon were the first two, and that they first went to recruit Hank Pym(sp?) who betrayed them and attempted to hold them until they could be arrested. This comic makes for a great background filler on how the team was formed and what all took place for it to be created.
