View Full Version : Surfing the web at work

OK, I like to read my forums when at work, when times are slow. OK fine, everyday, all the time. Anyway they are slowly locking me out of my sites. And I know at some point I heard something about a site or program that would fake out your system and let you surf around the blocks.
Basically sites with the words "game" in it are starting to be blocked. I just lost CoH main today. If I loose this one I will just DIE! I already lost my Star Wars one.
Anyone have any ideas?

Do some work to take your mind off of it?

You know, I just might actually do that.

Depends on where you work... If its a small company, think of talking to the people that run the computers and telling them you like to check up on game-related news and events during your lunch break? Maybe they'll keep the path to certain sites open for you.
Might not work, but it would go over better than getting caught going around their blocks.

Google "proxy site" which will open the window within a window and not report the URL to those watching (I think)
However, if your sites are being locked down one by one, fair guess is they're watching you and building a case to fire you. I'd take the hint :P

Have to agree with Red. I would be careful if I were you, better to be safe than sorry.

The Application we use at my work is called “web sense” and it can trigger on words or specific URL’s. All “web” type traffic goes though it. The idea is if it hits on a threshold more than 20 times I get an e-mail. There is a list for some of the proxy services as well.
I also Agree with Red on this, but If you’re a small company talk to the IT guys. As long as it is not excessive it might be ok. Best to ask, remember in most cases there just doing what there told as well.

I can also pull up router logs and it will tell me which internal ip address went to what site. All the big routers nowadays (cisco, sonicwall, etc...) have tons of admin tools that will give them extremely detailed logs of all internet traffic that has passed through to the network.
If they are slowly blocking all the sites you frequent, I would stop surfing. They already know where you go, it's just a matter of time before they decide that you are abusing the privilege.
