Anoyone else been playing the 'beta' of this? I have to say it's some of the most fun i've ever had in a multiplayer game. The classes are amazingly balanced, with everything having a counter. The visual style is great and i regularaly burst out laughing at stuff like the heavy laughing manically with his eyes rolling back into his head as he mows people down and how everyone starts cheering when sudden death is announced.

I like playing all the classes but my favourite has to be the Scout and Pyro. The scout is just fun running around double jumping everywhere, and using a taunt during the zoom in after every bat kill is my greatest joy. Pyro is sort of gimp compared to how amazing everything else is but jumping round a corner and torching the heavy train is so satisfying. Best moment so far has to be as a spy disguised as a Heavy and getting an enemy to Ubercharge me while i backstabbed half the enemy team. God were they pissed off.

Here's the trailer for those who haven't seen/played it. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=a7ozG-YNLNg) That's pretty much how the final game is. the facial animations and stuff all occur in game, the only difference is that some of the costumes have been changed slightly.

Im enjoying it, still not very good but its fun and i love the presentation and so far all the classes seem pretty balanced, altho a medic who can stay out of the line of fire is beyond invaluable.

I plan on getting the Orange Box for 360 after it comes out. Not a huge FPS fan, but Portal alone is enough for me to get it, and TF2 looks awesome.

Do you guys think there's any chances of a demo or something?

I've been playing the TF2 beta and the Exteel beta since the weekend. The two of them are taking up a good quantity of my spare time, at the moment.

Both pretty fun. TF2 has a steeper learning curve (even though I played the Q3A version extensively). Some of the new maps, and altered abilities of the classes takes some getting used to.

I most certainly did not get into the Exteel beta as well. Nope. Not at all.

I played a big of TF2. I'm not big on this style of multiplayer game, but I can see how those that enjoy BF, BF2, and various other shooter online games would like it. Very well balanced.

I got the new Exteel beta invite as well, but I haven't checke dit out yet. Are there any changes or is this just a new round of testing?

I wasn't in the previous closed beta test, so I don't know if it's different.

Interestingly enough, I never received a direct invite. I bookmarked their website last year, and I happened to wander back to their homepage on the day they opened the beta test, and I signed up immediately. I was accepted a couple of days later.

They had the smarts of completely disabling Friendly Fire, which is honestly a-okay by me, seeing as there are a couple of classes that would be completely gimped with it. Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to it.

I was a huge TFC fan back in the day, so I've been waiting, what, ten years for this new version to finally come out. I have to say, I love the way that demo looked: I love the cartoon stylings it has now (I never really cared for the military look they were pursuing way back when). And I'm glad to see rocket-jumping is alive and well, too. :)

Thanks for posting this: I had no idea the project was still alive, heh

Team Fortress 2?

Wouldn't happen to be a spinoff of Team Fortess Classic would it? :P

Here's the videos they did to demonstrate the facial animations. Not in the game obviously but done in the game's engine:

Meet the Heavy (http://youtube.com/watch?v=mY5qJHZCz2I&mode=related&search=) - The crazy laughing happens when you go on a killing spree.
Meet the Soldier (http://youtube.com/watch?v=QbZOeGyd61E&mode=related&search=) - The Pyro, Demo and Heavy at the start are doing taunts. This is the best thing you can do after a kill because then your opponent gets a freeze frame of you that looks like this (http://img.waffleimages.com/5abd0a4c7fbbfc8e31b90a1c9d0a0fbf4c56ae3a/kurashu%20is%20looking%20good!_0000.jpg).
Meet the Engineer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJzRGrQ8_Gs&NR=1) - The sentry turrets pretty much are this deadly. Expect to come across scenes like this often when playing with people who think holding mouse1 down behind a sentry is a fun time.

Some ingame footage of the worst map. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICTqrmqtTOE) Right now i'm having the most fun on 1 team assaults, other defends maps. The back and forth map are starting to get rather annoying as people start to find out the best way to defensively camp leading to stalemates. Also some of those maps are hideously designed, offering literally no alternate routes in to bases, which is a reason i hate sentries so much. I can't wait for some competant mappers to get their hands on it.

EDIT:

What classes would be completely gimped by it? If you mean demomen can't just stand there firing a constant stream of grenades into the chokepoint then i guess so but that's hardly a bad thing. I spend the majority of my time on FF off servers but when you spend over an hour on hydro where literally every round ends in Sudden Death because nobody could get past the constant demo nade spam or the 5 sentries set up at the entrance to each team's base, FF is a nice change of pace. I see no reason for them to remove content like this.

Pyros are weak enough as they are, but they would be utterly ****ed and Spies would be invincible half the time. For starters. But yeah, I'm looking forward to this like crazy.

Pyro flamethrowers don't hurt teammates even with FF on. Also spies aren't overpowered since unless they are smart they get found out quickly. It also gives Pyros a very important role since they can spray the flames around to flush out spies. In FF off servers spies can't get near a defensive team because everyone shoot checks everyone. They can only really get anything done killing heavy trains or snipers since all engineers are paranoid and shoot anything they see.

I havent fiddled with spies much, but they seem very good in the hands of a skilled player. Had one last night that the only reason i knew it was a spy was because he had my name, so i immediatley used my bone saw on him. Make sure you know whos on your team and try to know where they are and alot of times you can figure out a spy before they do much harm.

Super Ultra OMEGA Bump.

I finally got a new computer that CAN handle the game and the first thing I did was go onto Steam and I plunked down the 20 clams for the REAL TF2. No more of this XBox Live idiots screaming at each other and cheating.

If anybody still plays and has some good servers they play on, let me know. I've been trying out the three updated classes, because the 360 version had NONE of the upgrades.

Being able to shoot back a rocket with a flamethrower is just 10 tons of awesome in my book!

As with what Icy said, the three classes get new weapons that you can earn through achievements. The medic gets a new gun that heals a bit when it hits, the pyro has a flare gun and new flamethrower that crits from the back and the heavy gets a new lighter mini-gun, boxing gloves and a sammich that he can eat to gain health.

It sucks having to earn all of the achievements all over again. While it is fun seeing that I'm earning them, I know I must have at least half of them on the 360.

But I'd rather stick with this, by the time they put up the update on live, the next one on the PC will be out.

Plus, Microsoft said the updates WON'T be free and they'll charge money for what the PC gamers are getting for free. So even though paid 20 bucks for the PC version, and I already got the Orange Box on the 360, I'd rather not have to give MS money for every update.

It's pretty lame, but there's servers where people farm achievements. You can get all of your achievements with a buddy and one of these servers. There's pits set up to slowly hurt you, bots to kill, water to kill in, etc.

Yup, I read all about them. One guy did a pretty good article on a gaming site about them when the Pyro one came out. He said he felt like he cheated it and didn't really feel like he earned them.

Some of the achievements are pretty nuts, I wouldn't think to pull them off, and others just happen as I would normally play. I got three Medic ones at the same time, just by playing normally and the same with the Pyro.

I'll keep trying my best, and if I'm down to my last straw, I'll hit one of those servers for some quick achievements.

Yeah, now all my stats are all messed up on the loading screen. It's like 256 points in one round as a heavy and nothing else comes close. The weapons are worth it to me, though.

I've been playing quite a bit of TF2 since the last post, (specifically the past week) and can say that there have been a lot of updates since then, with both the Soldier and Demoman WAR update, meet the sniper (and the spy) The scouts been updated as well. I think that all that's left to get a class update with new weapons is the engineer (but that's supposedly in the pipe as well)

I've been playing on a very community friendly set of servers for Hals Playground, and they usually have 30 man games going on with pretty full servers. i'm on STEAM as Akamaz: OMG ZOMBEH!!! and if you want an invite to HaLs steam group lemme know

as far as unlocking weapons goes, they have since dropped the requirement to earn achievements to get them, but now have a random drop sstem that has picked up quite a bit from their old random system... this past weekend i've received like 8 drops the only deal with that is that their random drop randomly gives you items, so you can get stuff for classes that you may not care much for. (I will say that these random drops have made me play as a spy and sniper a lot more than i have in the past)

Here's hoping for a bonk cola and a kritzkreig drop, as I keep getting duplicates of spy and sniper stuff

Well, the Engineer update went live last night... i must say so far my opinion is "Meh" I think that he balance got wrecked by the ability to pack up and move fully upgraded buildings. now instead of being exposed to enemy fire and requiring teammates to cover you while you upgrade a turret, instead you build and upgrade your turret safe in your base, then carry it to your forward position. it takes the same amount of time to redeploy a rank 3 turret as it takes to build a rank 1 turret.

that being said, aside from that (i think the deployment time should be based off of what rank building you're deploying)
I'm likeing the new miniturret glove, and the wrangler gives you the ability to shoot your turret back at that pyro who is lobbing flares across the map at you.

I do think that they need to make the guitar a melee weapon instead of just a taunt weapon though.

I think i'll reserve final judgement though until after it dies down a bit, seeing as the whole deployment issue could just seem overpowered since every server is full of like 10 engineers now
