Today is effectively the last day of school for me! We have finals until Friday, but today being the last day of instruction, my mind is turning to summer vacation. (Who am I kidding? My mind has been on summer vacation since March). :)

Anyway, what do you plan to do this summer? My plans/goals include (in no particular order):

-Curriculum development for my ballet company's professional school which opens this fall (since I've been hired as faculty there! woo!)
-Curriculum development for my French classes for next year since we ordered new textbooks
-Designing the new course I hope to teach year after next, and writing a proposal for the school board to get said course approved (it's a high-school level Linguistics course, in case you're wondering)
-Working on my book (that poor project has been languishing since last summer) and sending proposals out to publishers
-Playing COH
-Continuing my ballet off-season conditioning/cross-training, and taking ballet class
-Learning Portuguese
-Learning to skateboard
-Sitting by the lake chilling out and enjoying our legendary ice cream while grooving to live bands
-Volunteering at the teen center

I can't wait! :) I'll probably end up going in to school for a couple weeks just to get my classroom set up early, so when I come back in August it's easy, but we'll see.

How 'bout you?

Not to be mean, Alu, but I think it takes more than a summer to learn portuguese and skateboarding. :)

-Play CoH.
-Buy & Read Comics (& regular books).
-Draw a little... maybe.
-Drinking. And lots of it probably.
-Relaxing with my friends.
-See, buy and play Batman Begins.
-Working out... maybe.
-Going to the beach and getting a minimal tan like always.

Also, I took a vacation back in April... the winters in CT can feel so long and it's so warm in FL.

*sigh* I remember summer vacations... vaguely.

Bwahahahaaa... a feeling I remember all too well from my days as a corporate drone. Then the Internet money-bubble burst, I was out of a career, and I abandoned the dark side, went back to university, and became a teacher. And now I get summer "vacation"! Woo!

I put it in quotes because as you can see, very little of it is spent the way vacations should be spent--i.e. lounging around near some body of water engaging in mindless self-indulgence--but at least I can put time in on personal projects/goals.

That said, very few teachers spend the summer vacationing. Laws require that we have to maintain a certain level of scholarship to keep our teaching licenses, so most teachers spend at least part of their summers going back to school (which they usually have to pay for), to stay current. That, and/or going in to school to work on curriculum development and the like; things which are also required and which we usually don't have time to do during the school year.

Not that I'm complaining. At least I get 3 months out of the year where my time is flexible. But I just wanted to clarify that [a] just because teachers get summers without students doesn't mean they get summers totally free, and [b] I've been in the Land of Two-Weeks' Vacation a Year, and I feel your pain.

I don't think that's mean at all, Solario. It's true. But I didn't say I was going to *master* Portuguese and skateboarding this summer. I said I was going to spend my summer learning them. And since learning is lifelong, it works out.

No matter what happens, I will definitely know more Portuguese and be better at skateboarding by the end of the summer than I was at the beginning. :p

I remember going to a local amusement park during my summer vacation from school and seeing my science teacher working at one of the booths. O_o So some teachers work thru their summer too.

the same thing I do every day Alumette,... try to take over the world! mwahahaha....

but anyway... really I'm a stay at home mom trying to have a business that isn't taking off *cry* hopefully it will and this summer will be busy... most people sell houses in the summer right? (i do virtual 360degree tours for real estate agents) but my 14 year old brother will be visiting in july, so that'll be cool :)

Summer vacation? I know what summer is and I know what vacation is, but both of those together? Wow, what a concept! :D

Actually, the summer is going to pretty busy for me in between working and sleeping:

Playing CoH
My bands have performances every weekend which started last Saturday and goes all the way through 2nd week of September. (one of those is at Oaks Park for their 100th B-day 6/18)
Playing CoH
Meet up with NW CoH'ers? (BBQ's sound like a lot of fun)
Riding my bicycle
Playing CoH (notice a pattern here?)
Finishing my CPA licensing
Family reunion in July
Music arranging for my band

So, pretty much busy all summer... yay!

Summer vacation?

I work from home... everyday is a vacation.

At least that's what everyone else tells me. I wish it were true. :chuckle:

Really, though, my big plans for the summer include working extra long hours so I can get all the work done that I need to before a trip to Europe. Then soending One week in Normandy, 2 Days on the French Riviera, 3 Days in Rome, 2 days in Venice and 1 week in southern Germany. And then when I get back from that I plan to work extra long hours so I can make up for all the work I missed when I was in Europe. :p It's a vicious cycle.

I already had my vacation. Took a trip to San Diego for my birthday last month. It was sort of my last hurrah before the baby comes and everything changes.

Oh and BTW, you might see a lot less of me in CoH for at least the next couple of weeks. GTA:SA finally came out for the PC today, and I'm currently lost in a world of drug deals and drive-bys.

:D While I would love to take you along Alumette, I'm not made of money yet. And on this trip I'm taking my parents along as a birthday gift to my father.

However, you're at the top of the list for next time. I'm sure it would be a blast.
