View Full Version : Technical Assistance!
No one looks at the actual tech thread enough for a speedy reply. :D But my dad just gave me my laptop back, and before I had given it to him, I wiped everything off of it. Now I know I have a video card in this hunk of junk, but it's not coming up. I'm going to have to redownload aaaaaaaaaall of the updates and patching for it in order to run CoH on it. Problem is, I forget how to look up what kind of card you have on your computer. I tried searching for it and nothing came up.
Anyone have any suggestions? Its an ATI Radeon something.

I'm assuming your laptop runs on Windows XP....
Click "Start", "Control Panel". "System". Then click the "Hardware" tab.... then the "Device Manager" button. On the window that opens up, click on "Display Adapters" and the exact brand and type of graphic card you have installed should be displayed.
I don't even have that option. lol The last option.

Ok, here is another method.
Click "Start", then "Control Panel", then "Display". Then click the "Settings" tab near the top of the resulting window, and then the "Advanced" button near the bottom of that window. A new window will open with even more tabs near the top. Click on the one that says "Adapter" . That should tell you what your graphic card is.
It's not listing anything. It's like someone just took it out or somethin'. I have no idea what's up with this thing.

Post screens please.
Actually, I don't have sound either. I don't know what the **** is going on here, and I don't have the program to take screens.

I'm not sure if it does the same for laptops as desktops, but you should be able to find out what graphics card by just right-clicking on the desktop, hit Properties, and go to the Settings tab. Right under the example monitor thing it should have Display: (name of graphics card)

Open the start menu.
Click "Run."
Type "dxdiag."
Hit enter.
On the display tab, it should say which card you have.
Nothin at all, Kin. Everything had been wiped. I know it was a ATI Radeon somethin' though. Heh.

What the ****? The page is just blank? Odddd.
Well it's probably a Radeon 9 series, or an X series (if the laptop is good and pretty new).

There's a list of drivers, though I have no clue which to pick.
I actually did that this morning, and it couldn't install jack squat because no driver/device was detected. I'm starting to believe I need to take it to the shop or something. I don't know what the **** is going on. It's not reading that I have sound installed into the computer as well.

Sounds like a bad reformat. Can you reformat it again?
I might have too. If I can find that damn disk that was given with the laptop then yes. I'll be on it in 5 minutes.
