View Full Version : The Big Sig Debate Poll
Masked Revenger

So, it has recently been brought to my attention that more people that the three that voice off about it are annoyed (to the point of distraction, apparently) by the fact that I sign all my posts.
I don't understand why this would be, it's five letters, and in no way detracts from what I am saying. I can't imagine that it's more destracting than some people's bright and flashy banner sigs.
But, that's beside the point. I've decided to see just how many people are bugged by this.
So, I've made this anonymous poll. Should I ditch signing my name? Should I keep it? Do you just don't give a ****?
Tell me! It might not change anything, but I'm curious.

In all seriousness though it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

It doesn't bother me, though I do find it odd. It's mainly the fact that it's unexplained, and not part of your actual "signature" field.
So if people complain about it, it's mainly the "nail sticking out" phenomenon. People don't like it when you don't conform. It snags their forum reading experience, or whatever.
And nails that stick out get hammered.

I always assumed it was so we could differentiate which one of your multiple personalities was dominant at the time you wrote your post.
Like SS, I find it a bit odd. I don't think there's many other avenues of communication where you'd sign your name after everything you write or say. Maybe ham radio? Still, it doesn't bother me enough to be starting threads or anything.

That's just it, it's not unexplained... still, maybe people haven't read Wid's original post making fun of this, so I'll re-explain here.
Way back in the day, before there was an internet, those of us who used computers had to get together online via local Bultien Board Systems (BBS). I started on one here in San Diego, and the message boards on that system did not tell you who made what post, so we all used to sign either our name or handle. It just became a habbit, and that habbit traveled with me from BBS to internet email to internet message boards. And all that time, not a single person ever said a thing about it, until here.
So, I there you go. Explained. :)

What i don't understand is why, when it says your name in size 20ish blue, underlined font just to the left of your post, do you have to remind people again that the person who wrote your post is indeed you? It doesn't keep me up all night or anything, it just seems really stupid.

The point of the whole display being, of course, that we all obsess over some form of trivia or another. You do, I do, the girl who bags your groceries does. But you'll never catch me trying to forbid anyone else from obsessing over minutiae. If they want to obsess over Chris' unnecessary sign-off, let 'em. It's not like you're sinless enough to cast stones at the Chris-mockers, so to speak.
And if you do cast stones at the Chris mockers, well, you can expect to get summarily mocked over your "PPP forum is unnecessary because the Asylum exists, as I've stated in 15 other threads before" and "Wikipedia automatically makes you a cheater, so that makes it perfectly okay for me to be a complete goon to you" fixations. *** for tat, you know. :p

Obviously I can't control what other people obsess over (nor would I want to), but if it comes to a point where the people are causing a problem for Chris about it, then it becomes something else. Chris asked for opinions, he got mine, and many others. That's all this is.
And if you do cast stones at the Chris mockers, well, you can expect to get summarily mocked over your "PPP forum is unnecessary because the Asylum exists, as I've stated in 15 other threads before"
Oh no! You mean something that already happened earlier in this thread might happen to me? Did you catch the part where I rolled with it just fine? ;)
