Well, I was moments from leaving my house to see this thing, untill my father told me that they censored the film to get a PG rating and its only 92 minutes.....a PG Superhero movie.....no thank you. I'll wait till a directors cut, otherwise, no thank you

That's its whole shtick, being cheesy like the old school comics. I'll pass.

liked it better than the first one. i thought it really had more of the fantastic 4 comic feel to it, especially the temporary swapping of powers.

*nods* I never read any of the Fantastic 4 comics, but it was a VERY good movie- whether or not it stayed true to the comics again.

I liked it. Feels like it's setting up for a sequel. I wonder if Johnny's GF at the end is who I think she is.

Because the FF comic book is so chock full of blood, gore, and sex, it's hard to believe they kiddified this material! :P

Yeah, FF is pretty much all about the almost PG stuff. I mean, not completely, but most of the time. And I'm sort of looking forward to it. Though I've heard Doom still sucks.

And yeah, if you didn't like the first one, probably won't like this one.

Yep, for two. I pretty much never bother going to the movies alone. I could get discount tickets from work for another theater but the damn thing is so far I can't be bothered.

I bought the extended version of the first movie, and I LOVE this series. I don't care what you think. It's second favorite of all the Marvel movies next to Spiderman 2, and ahead of the Incredible Hulk and Ghost Rider.

I went and saw it last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a lot better than the first one. I liked the feel of the movie. It came across like a comic book. I kinda felt Doom was underplayed though and the lack of Galactus(at least the version we are accustomed to) .

Ok, Doc. I'm sorry for this, but that is the most retarded thing I have ever heard on this subject. Doesn't it stand to reason that if a movie is "entertaining" and "does it's job," that kind of means it's a "great" movie? Sorry, "film snobbery" chaps my hide. And that's how I read that, whether you intended it that way or not. :P
Anyways, I LOVED this movie. And I LOVED the first one too. But I'm known for liking movies that others don't.

Probably. It just seems that labeling a movie as "great" or even "better than OK" is so hard for people to do. I think a lot of movie-goers have too high standards (and not Wolfe in particular, his comment just illustrated it). If a movie does what it's meant to do, then that makes it "great" IMHO. This movie (and all comic book movies, generally) are meant as candy for the mind. If they entertain and portray the genre in a favorable way, that's great. I don't see them for the cerebral lessons and deep meanings. If that's what people seek, maybe they need to turn to a different genre.
[/soapbox]
Sorry, I get a little vocal on this subject. And Wolfe, don't take what I said personally. I'm sure I misinterpreted what you meant, now that go back and think on it a little more. :)

Well, personally I only consider a movie great when it does more than it's supposed to do, and goes that extra distance that it didn't need for me to enjoy it.

A film can also be entertaining, but very poorly done. Look at Manos. That thing's hilarious. But it's also utter ****.
And just because something has cerebral lessons and deeper meanings, doesn't mean that it can't achieve the same purity and entertainment value as something solely designed for those two. In fact I prefer stuff that can be read on multiple levels and enjoyed on all of them.

I guess it depends what you think a job of the movie is. Like the first one I think these are supposed to be a relatively family friendly fun popcorn movies. They do that well, but its hardly the movie I'd point to as being the best in genre, and its never gonna win any awards, it'll just have to settle for 150 mill in box office.
I like big dumb entertainment movies like this a lot, but I can see the fanbois points who hate it, and I can see the point of the folks who say its cheesy and some of the acting was questionable. I watch a lot of movies I don't love, but can see how why people consider them great.
Flim snob, hell I liked the Dukes of Hazzard.

the reason its a good entertaining movie and not a great movie is because yeah cool effects, it was funny... but there would certain things that just royally sucked ass. First FF - Jessica Alba's hair was dyed blonde and they didn't worry bout giving her blue eyes, Second FF - Jessica was wearing a wig and had wigged out blue contacts (because she has dark brown eyes). Galactus wasnt' galactus and that whole part sucked, but Silver Surfer looked awesome.
I really liked the movie, but her ****ing hair bothered me to no end, cause like wtf, why couldn't they dye it again??!

Actually, when Galactus flies past Saturn, you can kind of see a shadow on the planet. I could have sworn I made out the horns on his helmet. Either that or I was looking really hard to find even a glimpse of him...lol. I think the storm cloud was just the way he was draining the planets but I do think he was in there somewhere. I'll have to watch it again and pay more attention next time.

You are correct, also when Surfer say he's going to end it there is a firey image in the shape of Galatus head, but you'd think they would have done 10 holes instead of 8 for the sake of being able to place both hands onto the planet, because on the first planet being destroyed it appeared to be shaped like fingers.
Though my biggest complain/issue was How did Human Torch keep his powers when they touched hands simultaneously gaining the other powers as well, because all other times he only switched with one.

Saw it earlier today. It was entertaining, but didn't blow me away by any means. The whole 'hemi' part really annoyed me though (When did they learn to fly the individual Fantasticars anyway?). All in all, it's better than Ghost Rider, Hulk, Daredevil, and the first FF.

Just saw it and it was terrible. Like a bad episode from a bad scifi TV series. A persiflage of the Fantastic Four comics. Most of the Mr.Fantastic SFX looked like they were done 15 years ago. Whereas the Silver Surfer at least managed to look as good as the T1000 and even better animated. Just like in the first movie, the only character they got right is Johnny, who also happened to get all the screen time and attention.
I can only hope they decide to do what Warner did with Batman Begins or Marvel is doing with the Hulk and make new, better versions of the FF stories.

I'm usually with you on the movies, but this was complete trash...
...I just saw this "movie" in the dollar theater tonight and I'm glad I only paid $.50 for it. It was terrible. Right down to the camera angles. I was falling asleep, and my other friend was sleep. We were more entertained by the snoring audience and the little girl that wouldn't sit down during the entire movie. The FX were horrible, as well as the acting. I felt like it was just a big, drawn-out TV pilot episode. I hope they don't touch a 3rd one. Just leave it alone until someone decent can come revive it's soul and not make it so Shrek-ish to solely entertain the 5-10 year old population.

SS's look was real good when he was just dull gray. When he was silvery though, I thought the visual quality went down. The T-1000 looked better then he did.

Not at all.
It was just poorly executed, IMO. Mr. Fantastic's stretch FX mixed with some of Johnny's FX were just downright lame. They could've invested more time/money in them to make them more realistic. I think they were more successful with the paper-mache on the pole in the original Fantastic Four movie.
Hopefully, like someone stated, someone else will come in and redo this franchise. It has the potential to be as phenomenal as V for Vendetta, 300, and Transformers.
