Well, here's the thing, I've been using my Graduation to buy a new computer. Seeing as I've always wanted to do it, (Not to mention it would be cheap, powerful, and a good learning experience) I decided to build a new computer. A lot of people do it, and it doesn't take TOO much technical know how. But I've somehow managed to mess it up.

The problem is this. It's set up, built, has all it's pieces Etc, And it turns on (It wouldn't for awhile, but my Tech Genius friend Nick got it to work in that capacity, Unfortunately, He moved away just this afternoon.) But it simply doesn't boot up. Hard drive goes on, Power lights up, CPU and PSU fan go on, but I don't get any signal to my monitor, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't boot up to the BIOS screen. I've tried using my Onboard VGA slot, and my new Video cards slot, I'm fairly certain the RAM works, but I can't really test it in any other computers (Same with the Video Card) And all of my checking around says that either I messed something up in my power Source, or I'm really screwed, and my CPU is fried (Which would make me want to punch somebody because to get a new one is $100 out the window, at least the power supply would be under $50)

Basically, what I'm saying is: DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS WHERE I DON'T HAVE TO SPEND THE LAST OF MY MONEY!!!!????!?!?

Sorry, It's just that I've spent almost $900 on this project already and I really just want it to freaking work.

EDIT: I'm not quite so stressed out. I've hooked up my new monitor to my old computer... And Sweet Freaking Jesus it's glorious. (22 Inch Widescreen with 1680 by 1050 resolution... Sweet Jesus.)

First things first, it should not cost any money to replace either your CPU or PSU. Both should still be under warranty for at least a year.

Second, what exactly do you have in this PC? CPU, Mobo, GPU, etc. What are all the specs?

Finally, are your fans connected directly to the PSU or to the motherboard? If they're connected to the Mobo and they spin up, it's a good bet that your Mobo is still alive.

Thank you for that. I think I now know exactly what's wrong. CPU must be fried because the CPU fan which is connected to my Motherboard Still works.

Also, I think the easiest way to answer about the Specs would simply be to link to the Kit I bought to build it. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3145072&Sku=A458-1162%20C

Hrm. Well, honestly, it could still be GPU, CPU, or RAM at this point, and without any way to test, it could be mighty tough to actually diagnose. Be sure to check out all of your friends computers to see if any is relatively new, or if that fails, a store such as CompUSA or Microcenter just might let you test the RAM or GPU on one of their demo units, if you get lucky.

I just built my 4th PC (a little gift to my dad for Fathers Day) and it would refuse to boot as well. Turned out being a bad stick of RAM. My money would be on the RAM or GPU, as it is not very often at all that a CPU comes dead out of the box.

Best of luck.

Well, I know it's not RAM, I've tried a few different Sticks from my Main computer already and none of them work. And I don't think it's the GPU, because both my onboard VGA and my Brand new Video Card fail to work.

EDIT: Also, I'm fairly certain I fried the CPU because I hooked a few power cables up wrong originally.

EDIT: Also, (Again) if I fried my GPU, what could I do about it?

Send it back to the manufacturer and feign ignorance "I just plugged it in and it didn't work. please send me a new one, k?thx"
if your GPU is fried you would still get a post beep and it would sound like your PC was running normally.
CPU means that the thing would prolly shut off after a bit.
you need to post more details about what it's doing or not doing.

Well, alright then, I'll give a play by play on it.

1. Presses Power Button

2. PC Powers up (But the Speaker makes absolutely no noise.)

3. All Fans Rev up and work Normally

4. Hard Drive Revs up and works Normally.

5. PC Speaker continues to be completely Silent (And I have hooked it up properly) And I still receive no Visual Signals to the Monitor. (Which is also working properly.)

Does it stay on? Could be a PSU issue. Happened to me once. PSU only powered certain rails, but not the ones necessary to start the PC. Still very difficult to diagnose without possibilities of testing.

I got it fixed. Remember that Nick guy I mentioned in my first post? Well he took at look at it while coming home to visit. It was the power supply. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

Good to hear you got it sorted out.
