View Full Version : Rerolling Pulse Fire

Ok.. I decided to post this here because you guys are Pulse's SG, and.. this would be a bad thing in a way. See, Pulse.. errr.. sucks to play? So I want to reroll him.. into what I don't know. Thinking Fire/Kin Corruptor..
But, this means I waste one set of our groups Halloween Salvage. For this I assume you will either want to punish me, or just tell me to stop whining and play him how he is. Now as it stands, I'm hardly playing him and he hasn't leveled past 7 in a month or two. So either way I kinded wasted the Salvage since I'm not using him.
So.. if I do reroll him, I put the stipulation upon myself that I am not allowed to ask for or receive any pieces of the costume salvage until Pulse Fire in some form or another reaches Lvl 20. Also.. if I reroll, you can beat me with sticks.. whenever it feels appropriate. Sound good?
I want your opinions on what I should do because while I contributed the few pieces of salvage I had into the pot at some point or another, I still wasted them by using them after they had been giving to the SG. Let me know what you guys think..

Fire/Traps becomes a lot better later in level. It can be a really fun combination to play with, especially when teamed with a primary that has a lot of AoEs and Cones (Which fire does.) I think you just have to learn how to adapt yourself to it as it's very different to all the other secondary corruptor sets. Essentially, if you put the time into it you may start to enjoy it a lot more than you are doing now. Also, find teams, since Fire/Traps will be extremely hard to solo in the early levels.
Have you tried him as a Fire Dominator yet? That could be the next thing to try if you don't like Fire/Traps... But some of the stuff (I.E. Fire Imps) might be completely out of character and unfortunately would be necessary for the continued advancement of the character... I may even suggest a slight alteration of the concept (I.E., he wears a flame retardant suit and ignites himself,) and try him out as a SS/Fire Brute. Because man, are brutes fun. ;)

Tried Dominator, didn't like it for him. I agree it's hard to solo, it's the main reason I don't play him.. I have a hard enough time trying to find a team normaly, it's almost required to play him. I hate sitting around waiting to find a team that hardly ever comes about. I can hardly solo small groups right now. I could try pick up groups more I guess.. I just prefer teaming with friends or Gurus.

I assume that's a no on the whole SS/Fire Brute idea... Which, by the way, would be soloable from day one. ;)

Oh, come now. Mind/Psi Dominators are a royal pain to solo--and yes, sometimes you can't find any Gurus to team with and yes, pick-up groups are notorious for passing over Dominators (and Stalkers) in their crazed search for Brutes, Corruptors and Masterminds. But I stuck with it, and look where Bloodywedd is today: Level 50 and damn near invincible (at least in PvE or against anyone with Invulnerability...).
So go on. Chin up. Get back to burning, trapping and making depressing remarks already. Halloween Salvage doesn't come cheap, you know. :P

I deleted my Fire/Fire Dom at 19. I didn't like the sets. Especially the primary. Just crappy powers. I suggest rolling a character and if you like the power sets, then reroll Pulse using those sets.

I'm still trying to make Fire/Traps work.. but it's hard to tell if anything is actually going to work out since.. I'm only Lvl 7.

You want to solo well. Go with Fire/Dark. Great heal, great slow and a decent resist damage toggle. Then later you get Dark Servant and some other nifty powers. Couple that with massive AoEs and teaming is a thing of the past.

/Dark might break the concept unless it was roleplayed as smoke or something.

I don't know what his concept is. But I suppose the dark could be smoke.

From what I know, Pulse Fire is a Natural (Tech) character who has wrist mounted flame throwers in his gloves, attached to his belt which holds the fuel, as well as other small gadgets and devices. If I remember correctly he was previously a Fire/Devices Blaster in CoH before Malice in Wonderland moved to CoV for good, so Fire/Traps was the obvious choice in CoV.
Basically, I think he wants to keep the whole thing natural. Although, how Kinetics would work with that I have no idea. ;)

I gues you can make anything work when your a techie guy. You just say that you designed that kind of gadgetry. However, I would say that level 7 is too early to judge any set or AT. If your goal is to be entirely soloable, this concept may just not be the one for you. Dark is pretty much the only corruptor secondary that can be played that way and as a 31 Rad/Dark corruptor I would like to mention that soloing is still not all that pain-free and fun.

I DON'T WANT to solo, I don't enjoy soloing.. I end up soloing. :p
I've been playing around and I've got a decent pattern going down.. now I just need to level and play and see how it works, if it's good.. no reroll.

Luckily, Double XP weekend should give you some easy levels to experiment with.
