First Look at Speed Racer's Mach 5

USA Today has debuted this first photo of the Mach 5 in the Wachowski brothers' Speed Racer, which starts filming next week in Germany. The article also features quotes from Emile Hirsch, who reveals a bit more about the May 9, 2008 release. Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman co-star.

Based on the classic series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida, the live-action film will follow the adventures of the young race car driver Speed in his quest for glory on and off the track in his thundering Mach 5. In addition to Speed and Trixie, the movie will feature other characters that fans of the show will remember, including Speed's family and his mysterious arch-rival, Racer X.

Is that a real thing? It looks so clean its almost CG, I can't wait, as long as the actors work out.

I have a pretty good feeling about it. It's basically a SFX racing movie (how could it be anything else). Taken in the the proper perspective it'll be what it is. A wild ride. Nothing more, nothing less.

This was my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE cartoon when I was a kid. So, I am so jonesing for this.

Ok, point taken. :lol: But I tend to be a very forgiving movie-goer. A movie has to REALLY suck for me to not like it at least a little.

Well Emile Hirsch (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0386472/) is set to be speed, some of you may remember him from flicks like "The Girl Next Door" and I think he's a pretty good actor, and pretty good for the part.

It looks good, I really mean it. My idea open with this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALzDcMDhf2o) and like at some point, have him break through into reality or something, or if they just recreate it in real life I will respect them, as long as they don't do some crappy remix of it

I think the look of the car is a good sign. After all, it doesn't look like the car from the American "reimagining" of the series. The car looks like the one from the series, yet with enough realistic details (like the scoops under the front wheel wells, and I like the design of the wheels, too) that it doesn't look too "cartoony".
