View Full Version : How will they bring Cap back?

What's your best guess on how they'll eventually bring Steve Rogers as Captain America back to life?
1. Cap never died, it was an LMD and the real Cap is being held under super secret security restrictions. He escapes and all is well again.
2. Dr. Strange uses magic to restore him to life.
3. Reed Richards uses the infinity gauntlet to pluck him out of time and save him... or just restores life to his carcass.
4. The Watcher picks a side in the registration act battle.
5. Dr. Doom... somehow and for no reason that will make any sense.
6. S.H.I.E.L.D. will clone him and implant the original's memories... along with failsafe trigger words to make him their lapdog in case he ever turns against them again; plus, army of super soldier clones.
7. A pissed off Hulk gets finds out about Cap's death and discovers he has someone with a rez power in his army. He has cap rezzed, then he appeals to his sense of fairness and justice in explaining how he was screwed over by Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, Black Bolt, & Doc Strange in hopes of adding Cap's tactical genius to his forces.
8. A pissed off Hulk smashes Cap's corpse until he wakes up.
9. Superboy Prime punches the walls of reality and Cap simply never suffered lethal wounds.
10. Cap is reincarnated as a Native American warrior and takes on a new look.
11. other??

Most likely - #1
Most awesome - #8

#9.
Going with #1 LMD
#11 He's been re-incarnated as Captain Mar-vell and gains vast cosmic powers. Restores his original body to life. Mar-vell disappears back to where he belongs (dying of cancer as he should) and the whole Civil War was did not happen excep in a dream of his. Naturally done to make a ton of money and **** off a bunch of fans of both characters in the process.

I know I know. The Juggernaut is going to WTFPWN the Hulk in WWH. The wave of awesomeness created from that will cause Cap to sit up and exclaim-

Hulk goes into the afterlife. Punchs Satan and God and the Cap is restored.

They have already said it was not an LMD, which has been confirmed by Wolverine and the fact that Steve's corpse has become all skinny like it was before he got zapped by vita-rays.
Which leads us t othe possibility of a clone. However, it was made clear that his DNA was a 100% match, so he would have to be the perfect clone in that case.
However, the most likely scenario is that Cap will simply come back to life with no reference whatsoever to his death or the means of his resurrection, ever.
Or: alternate dimension version of Cap, as they did with Hawkeye.

No more clones. EVER!
I'd rather they faked his death with the LMD that somehow fooled Wolverine and the whole skinny corpse thing a red herring.
Alternate dimension Cap as they did with Hawkeye would just be lame... seeing as how they only just did it with Hawkeye. Of course, no one's gonna accuse Marvel of being original.
Assuming for a minute they don't ever actually bring Cap back to life, who would you vote for as the most likely candidate to replace him in the costume, and why?
My vote is for the LMD.

I was so upset by the mere idea of killing Cap that I refused to read the comics. So, in Dynamo-World, Cap is alive and well, and the whole Civil War never happened.
Btw, how did they bring back Moon Knight? Did they ever explain how he came back after dying years ago?

It wasnt an LMD because Rogers's Body shrank down a bit and aged due to the supersoldier serum wearing out due to his death. LMDs dont do that. When Wolverine killed the latest model LMD of Nick Fury in Secret War, he melted, not shrivel up and age. Dead isnt Dead in Marvel comics, but somtimes Death is so huge that it means Dead is Dead. Mar-vell for instance(He isnt resurected, he's just displaced. He will be thrust back in time to where he was sooner or later and have his tragic death)

Okay, I'm out of touch here... LMD?
I'm guessing here... Lifelike something Decoy? Some kind of robot built by SHIELD?
Chris
Luke Cage becomes the New CAP!!! (I'm gonna get hate for postin' this aren't I?)
My reasons for thinking so:
1. Already leads the Avengers
2. Marvel wants to do something different and unexpected
3. Luke and Cap are the same (in terms of abilities)
4. I like Luke Cage
That is all.

Life Model Decoy. In the comics they're usually used by SHIELD to impersonate important people in order to protect them. They're almost complete doubles in that "their design is such that they mimic the subject's outer appearance (fingerprints, hair, all details of the skin), speech patterns, scent, iris and retina patterns, body language, thought patterns (to fool telepaths) and any other biological indicators one could think of. Aside from any invasive procedure or strong EMP, they are indistinguishable from the original."
I think AIM has used them a couple of times.

Wha...??? O_o Um, Luke can lift 10 tons, has steel-tough skin and flesh and is a street-brawler without a lot of agility.

Ah, I see, thanks. I think I vaguly remember something about them from the times when I actually read Marvel.
Here's my take. Cap is well and truly dead, for the next year. After that time, when Marvel feels they've "fooled" everyone into thinking that Steve Rogers is really dead, they will write another major cross-over event, in which it will be revealed that the Super-Serium forumla put his body into a form of suspended animation while it focused all it's energies on reparing the damage done to his body by the bullet. It took a year for him to recover. He will re-animate just in time to see the "new" Cap "die" and/or fail to defeat the baddies, and re-take the shield, leading the heroes to victory.
At least, that's how I would do it.
And Luke Cage as Cap would rock.
Chris

 I meant as in he is capable of carrying on the mantle due to his (VERY different) ablilites...hehe...whoops.
My point is, LC wouldn't have any probs representin' as Cap.:D

I really don't think that there will be a new Cap. At least not until Brubaker is off the title. I'm in agreement with his assessment that anyone trying to pick up the mantle will get the living **** kicked out of them by Bucky. And Bucky would certainly never pick up the mantle himself.

and Mr. Cage can do about 40 tons now. I also read his steel hard skin has been upgraded to immune to everything short of an admantium weapon (although a shock can mess up his insides). Luke is now, and always has been IMO, the CoH definition of Invuln/SS tank.
Cap is dead and has taken his seat at the side of our almighty lord Galactus. You know they always sorta respect Mar'Vell's death, took em a lot of years to screw it up, maybe just maybe we can keep Cap dead. NAHHH

I didn't realize that Cage had "improved." That's pretty cool. And yeah, he is the very definition of SS/Inv.
As to him (or anyone) being a "New Cap" I hope they don't. No one who has ever taken up that mantle besides Steve has had any success. Steve Rogers is as much Captain America as the other way around. Marvel can't kill Steve Rogers any more than DC could kill Clark Kent.
I think MR's version is pretty close to what they will do.

Whatever they do, it had better be *good*. (Of course it won't be... :/ )
I'm still pisssed that Marvel had the audacity to kill off my 2 favorite characters.
(Cap and Thor) I can only hope my 3rd favorite character Comes to earth an kicks the $H!t out of everyone in retribution.
The other problem is, while Ultimate Thor is the coolest cat in the Ultimate universe, Ultimate Cap is kind of a prick.
Also I agree with D-man, In the Thunder universe, Cap and Thor are still kickin' a$$ and taking names.

Thor is back in July, definitely.
And Marvel killed off some of my favorite heroes, too... Cap, Thor, Quasar, and Iron Man.
Sure, there's an Iron Man walking around and in command of SHIELD, but basically Marvel killed him with his ****ish behavior throughout Civil War. Tony Stark/Iron Man is dead to me.

Yeah, unfortunately it's J. Michael "Osborn's O-face" Straczynski (spelling?) who's writing it.
And it's not like these characters won't be brought back to their original state to some degree in the future. I personally thought Cap's death was pretty well handled, so I'm assuming his eventual ressurection will be as well (if Brubaker is writing it.)

Exactly. Remember what happened to that one Captain America? That's right, guy's in Canada now.

Yeah, it came up in another thread about Cap dying a little while back. Punisher isn't the next Cap, he was infiltrating some group and wearing a Captain America homage uniform was apparently the best way to git r' done.

Actually he was fighting a group of neonazis staked out in New Mexico who were killing immigrants while wearing a version of the Captain America costume.
This is his reaction from seeing the picture of the Hatemonger dressed in the Cap. costume.

Which sort of explains why he would dress up in the military Captain America costume.
