So they just finished 52, which I have yet to read because I want to read it in trades, and now they're starting up another year long series?! What the hell is this one about?!

I'm not really sure. It looks like the monitors and multiverse may play a part.

Jimmy Olson must die too, apparently.

I started reading 52 and stopped about 35..just soooo boring. I may read it in trades though. I bought World War 3 and it was pretty good.

At least with 52 I liked most of the main characters. In Countdown I couldn't give a ****.

I'm having the opposite reaction. I didn't care much for the main 52 people, but the Countdown characters plus the storylines (Hunt for Ray Palmer, Seduction of the Innocent, Great Disaster, etc.) sound eally interesting. I'm digging it so far.

Didn't you know? We're back in the '80's, where massive, world changing, cross-over event mini-series are all the rage! There's too many characters in the DCU, we gotta kill some off. Oh, and add a few new ones, to draw in readers.
Next up:
- Multiple varriant covers, with chrome embossing!
- A new #1 each and every week!
And this isn't unique to DC either. Marvel just finished Civil War, and now they're moving onto World War Hulk. Both of those were on the heels of the whole "Dissambled/House of M/Whatever" series. It's a cycle, and thats the cycle comics are in right now.

It's a sad cycle. But I haven't read the current events in their totality, so I'll refrain from commenting on them.
Rumour is that they're going to top Countdown off with something called Final Crisis.

We haven't had a chance to go to the store and pick up Countdown yet but we are anticipating it.
We have finished reading 52 and we both really enjoyed it. We're not very big DC fans, but slowly we're starting to get a little more interested in what's going on over there, and the DC titles on our pull list are growing every month.
They're doing some cool things over there.

With all the venom I spew at Marvel these days, one would think I just hated comics... or, at the very least, I am a DC fanboy. While there's plenty of annoying little things that take place in DC Comics, I'm overall less pissed off by them than Marvel.
Infinite Crisis was tolerable.
52 had some good stuff that kept me interested.
...and I already like the direction of Countdown.
I just hope they don't mess with Power Girl and her story anymore. We've got it back down to her just being a survivor from a parallel universe that ceased to exist (or retroactively never existed)... but now we've got the Monitors trying to clean up the universe of that kind of vermin (killing off the Joker's Daughter because she wasn't part of the current reality).
Ehhh... we'll see.

If they try to make Jimmy the new Elongated Man, I will have to choke a bitch at DC.
Yes, I know he used to be Elastic Lad, and they want him to do that, fine. Just... he's not a detective, okay?

Maybe Jimmy will just get back all his crazy superpowers from the silver age.

It would actually make sense if he got all his silver-age powers back, as that would explain "Jimmy Olsen Must Die." What with the Monitors killing everyone who's out of place, and Jimmy having all these powers from various realities.

Okay, so I read Countdown #47 today, and it leaves me wondering...
...why are they looking at Jason Todd, Donna Troy, and Kyle Rayner as dimensional travelers that need to be eliminated? I mean, sure, Jason Todd clearly doesn't belong because he should be dead. Being from another universe makes sense --though he seems relatively harmless. And Donna, yeah... I'll buy that after the extended backstory they gave on her before the last Crisis. But Kyle?? When did I blink and he was in any way, shape, or form from another universe??
And just what the hell is up with Jimmy Olsen and why haven't the Monitors noticed him yet?
And, for that matter, why isn't Power Girl --whom everyone seems to realize now is a survivor from a universe that ceased to exist-- on their hit list??
Finally, just a comment on Mary Marvel & Black Adam.
DAMN! Who would've seen that coming? Mary looks good in black, though I miss the cape. Anyone have a clue as to what Teth-Adam wants Mary to say he's "sorry" for when she sees Billy?

In IC, it was revealed that Kyle was supposed to be the GL of the same Earth Breach would have been from if the multiverse survived the first Crisis (Earth-8, I think). Maybe now that the multiverse is back, his continued existance on the 'main' Earth just shouldn't be.
Power Girl was on one of the montiors (heh) the Monitors were watching in one of the previous issues, so i'm assuming they'll get to her.
I suspect Jimmy Olsen will be dealt with in due time.

Were leaving together,
But still its farewell
And maybe well come back,
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
Were leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?
Its the final countdown...
Were heading for venus and still we stand tall
Cause maybe theyve seen us and welcome us all
With so many light years to go and things to be found
Im sure that well all miss her so.

That seems lame... like he shoulda been here, so we'll have to kill him because he wasn't and stayed where he was all along.
As for Power Girl, I think the real reason she was being watched yet there are no plans to go after her is because of her intimidating breasts.
