I thought you artists out there might be interested in this. I am a Web Developer and I needed some graphics, but I didn't have the money to buy Photoshop. As you probably know, it is extremely expensive. So I found this.
This is GimpShop. It is The Gimp (a graphics program for Linux), but they made it available for Windows, plus added the menus to make it look like Photoshop. Best of all, it is free. So you can use a lot of the Photoshop tutorials that are out there with this.

Besides Paint, I use PhotoImpact 8 which does help me out especially with creating animated gifs.
However I do thank you for pointing this out.

It has a pretty good gif animator. That's what I used for Icebreaker in my sig.
You can do several things with PhotoImpact that emulate PhotoShop.

I have PSP8...which does anything and everything (including animations, via the Animation Shop which comes packaged with it), at only a fraction of Photoshop's massive price. $100 well spent. :)

I use PSP8 as well. Very nice program, other than needing to figure out how to do everything considering almost all tutorials in the web are for Photoshop. :chuckle:
But it CAN do everything Photoshop can do for $600 less.

My guess is that Adobe's buying out the Internet (or at least tons of its advertising) so you can't help but hear about Photoshop. You go to Something Awful or Fark or Worth1000, and the only word you hear for their pic alteration contest dealies is "Photoshop". Except when Something Awful goes sarcastic and hosts an MS Paint fest, maybe. But no mention of Paint Shop, the Gimp, et cetera.

That's because we're not lame. And we have nice jobs, so we can afford stuff, so we don't have to sweat over pennies and dimes. :D

Adobe is to software, what Sony was to pretty much all technology

I might agree. It seems that you can't swing a dead optic mouse on any website without hitting a downloadable .PDF file. .PDF is the devil. Sure, Adobe Acrobat mixes text with graphics, but it scrolls like molasses and its only advantage over a text-and-graphics image converted to .JPEG is the page number feature...which really isn't much. :grr:
you don't consider the ability to keep the text and other graphics as vector a plus?
